Slipknot’s latest album, All Hope Is Gone, shows the nine-men strong band in a form so violent that the cornfields in the home state of Iowa must have been left scorched after the recording sessions. The inspiration, the passion of playing and the all-devouring anger are thriving like never before behind the grotesque Halloween masks. Slipknot’s starting point is 90s nu-metal, but today the band primarily plays versatile thrash with smoking riffs and galloping double pedals. The melodies, however, have not been turned away from Slipknot’s dark universe. A power ballad such as ”Snuff” proves why the band is likely to end up as Metallica’s successors. All music lovers should experience Slipknot as they let loose their hellhounds. The true story of a man who must suddenly raise his two sons alone after the untimely passing of his second wife. The ill-prepared Joe, who is dealing with his own loss, is confronted with the daily challenges of parenthood while coping with his young son Artie’s expressions of grief.
